Museum Vleeshuis brought together a composer, a violinist, and a violin maker, inviting us to reinterpret both the manuscripts of the ‘Sint-Lucasgilde’ — a collection of 18th-century violin music from Antwerp — and the 1792 A. A. Stienon violin from their collection. Stienon was a violin maker from Antwerp (1755–1835).

In these videos, you can see and hear some impressions of that process: remarkable violinist Linde Verjans plays the new violin I made, inspired by the 1792 Stienon instrument, performing the beautiful St. Lucas Suite by Frederik Neyrinck — a new composition rooted in these historical manuscripts. The videos also offer a glimpse into the making of the instrument and an interview with the three of us about the project.

It was a truly unique project, bringing together past and present and creating a dialogue between music, craftsmanship, and history.
